Lego Toy Company Began in 1932

According to the Lego.com website, "The name 'LEGO' is an abbreviation of the two Danish words 'leg godt', meaning 'play well'. It’s our name and it’s our ideal."

The LEGO Group was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen. The Company has passed from father to son and is now owned by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, a grandchild of the founder.

It has come a long way over the past almost 80 years - from a small carpenter’s workshop to a modern, global enterprise that is now, in terms of sales, the world’s fifth-largest manufacturer of toys."

Star Wars Movies

The original Star Wars movie was first released in 1977. It quickly gained popularity around the world. Within the next six years two more Star Wars movies were released, creating a movie trilogy. Star Wars became such a phenomenon that sixteen years after the final episode in this trilogy, a new set of Star Wars movies appeared. These were a prequel to the original trilogy. In its entirety, the sets of Star Wars films have generated approximately $4.41 billion.

The Perfect World of Star Wars and Legos

The Lego company has taken the world of Lego toys and Star Wars films and made an entire line of exciting toys that children, as well as adults, can enjoy. Some of the Star Wars Lego kits that are currently on the market include Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter, Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship, and Death Star. Some of the smaller Star Wars sets may have 74 Lego building pieces, while some of the larger sets have 5,922, plus or minus a few.

Legos are Popular and Educational

Kids, and adults, enjoy working with Lego toys because it stimulates the creative part of the thinking process. Legos can be used to build an endless assortment of creations. With Legos, the imagination is encouraged to run wild, to build, and exercise its engineering abilities. The creative possibilities are endless.

Many Lego kits include a set of instructions about how to build various Lego creations. Children can use these picture instructions to assemble Lego structures in a matter of minutes. This ability to see directions and put them into action is a skill that will be used throughout their lifetimes. To a degree, this aspect makes Legos educational toys.
